This issue previews a busy summer of park upgrades and shares the history of Island Park.
Park & Pool Projects Underway
Crews are finishing the Island Park pit toilet replacement and building new restrooms, a concession stand, a shelter house, and a storage building at Hurricane Park — ahead of the State Hammer Throw Meet in June. A grant will also fund replacement of the pool bottom and repairs to the mushroom feature.
Ohio High School State Hammer Throw Championship
Mt. Blanchard’s Hurricane Park will host the state championship on June 9th, welcoming the state’s top 64 high school hammer throwers. The event is hosted in partnership with the Northwest Ohio Throws Academy (NOTA).
The History of Island Park
Donated by Dean and Opal Cunningham in 1932, Island Park was home to the first public pool in Hancock County — dug by local farmers using teams of horses. The current pool was built in 1996.
Beautification Committee Thank You
A big thank-you to everyone who sponsored Christmas in the Village 2025 and supported the Easter pie sale, which funds downtown flower planters.
